Have you ever wanted to do some good in this world and make a difference while sleeping? It may sound like an impossible scenario that’s too good to be true, but it’s easier than you’d think. If you’re in Scotland later this year, either as a visitor or a resident, then you’ll definitely want to check out the charity sleep out event. It’s a unique and exhilarating chance for people from around the world to gather together, have some fun and get some rest.

If you’re unfamiliar with a sleep out, you’re probably incredibly confused right now. In short, a sleep out is a large gathering of people who all, well,

sleep outside. It’s a fairly simple concept, but the meaning behind it packs a powerful punch. This particular sleep out is specifically designed to combat homelessness in Scotland.

The event this year is scheduled for December 8, and will occur simultaneously across four major cities: Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. As such, it’s being dubbed as “the world’s biggest simultaneous multi-city sleep out.” With more than 8,000 participants in 2017’s event, I feel as though it has earned that title.

Last year’s Sleep In The Park event raised a staggering £4 million. That money went to multiple winter care projects and homeless shelters throughout the country. It’s turned out to be one of Scotland’s greatest philanthropic endeavors.

Although last year’s outing garnered a stellar audience, the program’s creators have set an incredibly high bar for this year. According to a report from DailyMail, Sleep In The Park 2018 is looking to attract 12,000 total participants and a whopping £6 million.

The true beauty of the Sleep In The Park events is that it not only allows for Scotland’s residents (and visitors) to make a positive change in the world, but it also offers an opportunity to enjoy fantastic live events. Amy MacDonald, Scottish singer-songwriter, will be performing at each event, and comedian Fred MacAulay will host the Edinburgh chapter. Some of Scotland’s greatest entertainers perform during these sleep out events.

If you’re looking to make a difference, have some fun, make some new friends and get a good night’s sleep, make sure to attend Sleep In The Park 2018!
