Scotland is known for many things, its people, its cuisine and its gorgeous landscapes, to name a few. However, golf is quite possibly one of the country’s most prized and cherished creations. And as an avid golfer myself, I wanted to list the top three golfers in the game right now.
Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson may not be a household name like Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy, but he is certainly on his way to becoming one. Johnson is, quite frankly, the best golfer in the game right now. At the time of this writing, Johnson is the number one ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking. He just recently won the 2017 Genesis Open and the 2016 US Open. What’s even more impressive is that he’s won five World Golf Championships, second only to the legendary Tiger Woods. He also joins golf greats Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the third player to win a Tour title in his first 10 seasons.
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth is, according to the Official World Golf Ranking, the second best player in golf right now. Only a few days ago, Spieth won the 146th Open Championship, making it his third major victory. Much like Johnson, Spieth has gotten very close to breaking records set by Tiger Woods, including being the second youngest person to win the Masters and tying with Woods’ 72-hole win. Because of his young age and excellence in the sport, Spieth was named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people. With nowhere to go but up, Spieth is certainly someone you should look out for.
Hideki Matsuyama
Ranked third in the Official World Golf Ranking, Hideki Matsuyama is a young and budding golfer. Not much is known about him, but he is certainly on his way to becoming just as big as any of the other countless golfers in the sport’s long and storied history. His most recent claim to fame came during the 2017 US Open, where he came in second place behind Brooks Koepka. Aside from that, Matsuyama has won the PGA tour four times and the Japan Golf Tour eight times.
